Our Story

The present-day Hutchins-Maples Matherly Funeral Home began in 1918 as a “sideline” undertaking business located on the second floor of Grooms Hardware Store. In 1970, at the suggestion of several friends, Raymond Maples and George Hutchins merged their funeral establishments. Together, they owned and operated Hutchins-Maples Funeral Home until their retirement in 1982. The funeral home was sold and run under corporate ownership for a number of years.

Kim Tankersley and Brent Matherly

In October of 2014, local ownership took root when the Matherly and Tankersley families purchased the funeral home, adding the name Matherly to the legacy of Mr. Hutchins and Mr. Maples. Today, our staff carries on a long, proud tradition of compassionate service. Each member of our team is truly dedicated to the families we have the privilege to serve. We believe that “Every Life Has A Story” and we want to be the funeral home that helps share those stories.
