Velma Lucille
Morphew
Apr 4, 1941 — Jul 5, 2026
Lucille (Velma) Morphew, a lifelong Yale resident, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma surrounded by her family.
Born on April 4, 1941, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to Robert and Mary (McCall) Jester, Lucille was raised in Yale and graduated from Yale High School with the Class of 1959. She married the love of her life, Jackie Howard Morphew, on December 21, 1957. Together they shared more than 60 years of marriage, building a life rooted in faith, family, and raising their two sons, Larry and Jeff.
Lucille was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Yale, where she accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of 9.
Lucille held many occupations, from working in health clinics to the local "Smoke Shop." She also enjoyed traveling the country with Jack while he worked on the road. However, Lucille was best known as a homemaker. She was a wonderful scratch cook who loved preparing meals for those she loved, and her Sunday evening family dinners became a cherished tradition that brought everyone together and created a lifetime of memories. She thrived on hearing about the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Even in her final hours, she wanted to know what all the "kids" were doing.
Lucy loved to fish and was still quite the markswoman in her older age. There weren't many fair-weather days when you didn't see Jack and Lucy sitting in the driveway. Lucille kept that tradition going even after Jack's passing.
Lucy will truly be missed but will leave us with love, precious memories, and stories we all will repeatedly share. As we will miss driving up to see her sitting in that chair, we find comfort knowing she found her new seat next to Papa Jack, on that Golden Road, not fighting that dust off of Greenwood.
Lucille is survived by her two sons, Larry Morphew and wife, Teresa, and Jeff Morphew and wife, Laura; four grandchildren, Curtis Morphew and wife, Shea, Casie White and husband, Taylor, Kendal Morphew and wife, Chelsie, and Kaleb Morphew and wife, Cheyenne; sixteen great-grandchildren, Emily, Avery, Gracey, Kymber, Kreed, Kolby, Maycie, Jackson, Josie, Brantley, Brayden, Trinity, Skyler, Walker, Asher, and Amelia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Howard Morphew; her parents, Robert and Mary Jester; her grandson, Trey Seward; her brothers, Wayne Jester and Robert Jester; and her sister, Louise Norris.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Crossroads Church in Yale. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Matherly-Davis Funeral Home.
