Ronnie Van Barrett was born September 27, 1942 to Van and Josephine Barrett in Bristow, Oklahoma. He departed this life March 18, 2024 at the age of 81 years.
Ronnie, a lifelong Bristow area resident, grew up attending Bristow Public Schools. He was a member of the graduating class of 1960. Shortly after, he found work at the Serro Scotty trailer plant just outside of Bristow, all the while, running hay trucks in the summer for both Thompson and Jamison ranch. A self-proclaimed hay king. In 1962, Ronnie and Christine Dowdy were united in marriage. They set out building their life together; being blessed with three children Shawn, Shane and Lisa who passed away as an infant. Ronnie supported his family in many ways. Leaving Serro Scotty, He began working with his brother-in-law at James and Son Construction. Work for Ronnie was a way of life and often a hobby. He began Barrett Roofing in early 1976, A company still in business today. November 30, 1978, Ronnie and Darlene Ryker were united in marriage. Darlene, along with her children Russell and Tina, brought the family of three to six. Many great memories and times of laughter have followed after the bringing of their families together on Skull Creek Ranch. He loved his family deeply. He had a passion for being outdoors. Working his cattle and taking care of his animals brought him joy often talking about his membership with Beefmaster Breeders United. His love for fishing and hunting will be shared for generations to come.
Ronnie is survived by his wife, of 45 years, Darlene; four children, Shawn Barret and wife Brooke of Bristow, Shane Barrett and wife Brandi of Bristow, Russell Ryker and wife Michelle of Sand Springs, Tina Bevans and husband Bryan of Broken Arrow; one sister, Dolores Lippert; fifteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Lisa; one sister, JoAnn James and one brother, Kenneth Barrett.
