Roger John
Williams
Mar 19, 1946 — Nov 2, 2022
Roger John Williams was born on March 19, 1946, to John Williams and Joyce Whitman Williams in Rochelle, Illinois and was raised in the Lindenwood farming community. Roger received his bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois. Following college, Roger served in the United States Air Force. He served in Spain for 6 years, during which he had the good fortune to coach basketball. His job at Wilson Foods moved him to various cities eventually landing him in Oklahoma City. It was there, where his humor and asking, "If I put my glasses on top of his head do I look like Tom Selleck?" won over the love of his life, Cheryl. He told Cheryl if she married him, she would not ever have to cook, and Cheryl held him to it. They were united in marriage on October 12, 1988.
Roger's presence was hard to miss, and anyone around was guaranteed a laugh and a good time. If you wanted the latest sport scores/stats, Roger was your man! One of his favorite sports moments was attending Game 5 of the 1995 MLB playoffs where the Seattle Mariners beat the New York Yankees at the Kingdome.
Roger and Cheryl loved traveling, they enjoyed seeing new places and revisiting friends in old places. Roger traveled back to Spain with Cheryl, his daughter and son in law to explore new areas of the country he fondly remembered while stationed there. Roger and Cheryl were also able to take a once in a lifetime trip to Israel. He also enjoyed fishing, especially at the Gunflint Resort. If he could not fish, then he was happy eating fish (with his own lemon juice in tow) at the Wanna Wanna Beach Bar in South Padre Island.
Survivors include his loving wife, Cheryl, of Albert Lea, MN and daughter, Jarae Housley of Seattle, WA and his loveable Yorkie, Moose.
Roger was, preceded in death by both of his parents, Jack and Joyce Williams, and brother David (Dee) Williams.
A private burial will be held at the Euchee Valley Memorial Park Cemetery in Cushing. The family will have a memorial service at a later time.
A special Thanks to the medical staff at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN for providing the best care and support to Roger and his family.
