Oren Duane Jones was born May 27, 1939, to Clarence and Mertie Jones in Byng, Oklahoma. He departed this life September 13, 2021, at the age of 82. He graduated from Cushing High School in 1957. On November 3, 1967, Oren Jones and Karen Wingfield were united in marriage. Together they raised three children, Shelly, Julie and Frank. He started his firefighter career in Cushing in 1959 and later became the Fire Chief until his retirement in 1981. He continued his employment with the city of Cushing as CDBG/Code Enforcement Officer until finally retiring in 1999. He served the Cushing community proudly, serving as the civil defense director and as president of the Cushing High School Alumni. He was also an avid Oklahoma Sooner Football fan. He was a mentor to many throughout the community in various capacities. He was well respected and will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by one daughter, Shelly Jones Lyle and husband Bobby of Jacksonville, Florida; one son, Frank Boyles of Tulsa; two sisters, Carolyn Naylor of Tulsa, and Mamie McBride of Cushing; five grandchildren, Jordan Lyle, Parker Lyle, Payten Lyle, Cameron Staley, and Kayla Dixon; ten great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Julie Harper, four brothers and four sisters. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00AM, Friday, September 17, 2021, at Crossway Church. Interment will follow at the Fairlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be help from 4:00PM-7:00PM, Thursday.
