Obie Jacob Butler was born March 18, 1983, to Larry Butler, Jr. and Melita (Wabaunasee) Butler in Iowa City, Iowa. He departed this life on October 4, 2025, at the age of 42 years.

Obie was raised in Shawnee and had worked as a roofer. He was a member of the Native American Church, where he served as Sergeant of Arms. He enjoyed going to the casino, playing horse shoes where he was unbeatable, fishing, camping at the Pow Wow, gourd dancing, animals and people, he loved visiting with everyone getting to know them.

Survivors include his parents, Larry and Melita, of Shawnee; brother, Dale Anthony Butler; sister, Kate Allyson Butler; niece, Anya Dae Butler and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and baby brother.

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, in the Allen Cemetery.
