Obituary

Normagene Nichols, born December 18, 1948, to Bruce and Martha Ervin in Brook, Indiana, departed this life on August 25, 2026, at the age of 77.

Normagene spent her youth in Indiana and graduated from South Newton High School. She first married Charles “Bud” O’Neil and shared life with him as pastor’s wife until his passing. On May 23, 1992, she married Charles Nichols, and together they enjoyed eighteen years of love and companionship before his passing on December 30, 2010.

A woman of quiet joys and gentle hobbies, Normagene loved reading her Bible, working puzzles, coloring, and quilting. Her hands were always busy creating something meaningful—especially the baby quilts she lovingly made for each of her nieces and nephews. She adored animals, and her beloved dog Jimmy held a special place in her heart. She also enjoyed singing and listening to Gospel Music.

She is survived by three siblings: Gerald Ervin, Karen McAfee, and Sally Boozer; along with numerous nieces and nephews who cherished her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Charles “Bud” O’Neil; her second husband, Charles Nichols; and siblings Frances Logan, Charles Ervin, and George Ervin.

Normagene’s life was marked by kindness, devotion, and a gentle love for family. Her legacy lives on in the quilts she stitched, the memories she created, and the hearts she touched.
