Norma Jean "Jeannie", Christian, passed away Wednesday morning, November 21, 2018 in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 83 years. The daughter of the late Owen Lewis and Ruby Ledgerwood Lewis, Jeannie was born on March 17, 1935 in Pryor, Oklahoma and was raised and educated in Drumright, graduating from Drumright High School in 1953. After graduating Drumright High School, Jeannie married her sweetheart Richard "Dick" Christian in July and they began their journey together that lasted more than 51 years. Since he was still in the Air Force after they married, their early years were spent stationed in Mississippi, Alabama and Texas, before returning to Oklahoma for him to go to OSU. After his graduation, they settled in Norman where they spent the next 14 years followed by a 4 year period in Missouri. After leaving Missouri they lived in Tulsa for 30 years until Dick's retirement. After his passing Jeannie chose to move to Norman in her final nine years. Jeannie grew up during the Great Depression and learned early on how it took the entire family to make ends meet. During her youthful days and taught by her mother Ruby she learned to be a marvelous cook which was a skill she carried through her entire life. After Dick's graduation and new job as a mechanical engineer, Jeannie found it important to work as a team with Dick to be a homemaker. She worked hard to be supportive of Dick and his job while teaching and nurturing her two boys. She is survived by her two sons, Richard K. Christian and his wife Debbie of Norman, OK and Andy Christian and his wife Jeannette of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren, Jake Christian, Carly Holmes and husband Chris, Alli Storey and husband Blain, Kyla Bowen and husband Stephen, Dillon Christian and Ranae Grissom; great grandchildren, Joselyn Christian, McCartney Holmes, Harper Holmes, Madison Christian, Tyson Bowen, Morgan Bowen and Caroline Storey; nieces and nephews, Sally Wright Prock, Julie Hawkins, Calvin Wright, Brian Lewis, Matt Lewis, Gary Lewis, Eddie Lewis, Robert Lewis, Doug Lewis, Mike Lewis, Cyndi Lewis McClain, Tracy Strunk, Jamie Snell, Carrie Fricker, Marsha Burge, Ginny Holt, Leslie Davis and other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in passing by her husband, Richard D. Christian; four siblings, Mildred Lewis, Bea Wright, David Lewis and Kenneth Lewis. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2018 in the Greenwood Cemetery at Yale with Brad Hawkins officiating. The family will greet friends on Monday evening November 26 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Floyd Family Center east of the Funeral Home.
