Obituary

Mary Anne (Uptegraft) Smith passed from this life at the age of 83, on January 25, 2026, at her residence in Edmond, Oklahoma. She was born in Drumright, Oklahoma, on July 17, 1941, to Kenneth Lee Uptegraft and Mary Ruth (McIlwain) Uptegraft.

Mary Anne graduated from Drumright High School in 1960. She later attended Oklahoma State University and Central State College, now the University of Central Oklahoma. Mary Anne worked for the Veterans Administration for several years in the 1960's. Later, she supported her husband in their medical supply business from the 1970's until retirement.

Mary Anne married her Jr. High school sweetheart, Donald Clifford Smith Jr. "Donnie", October 17, 1964, in Drumright, Oklahoma. She and Donnie moved to Edmond in 1966 with their only child, Brooke. Mary Anne was very giving and always saw the glass as half full, not half empty. Mary Anne enjoyed fishing, cooking and gardening but most of all she enjoyed spending time with Donnie. She loved sitting on her back deck or front porch, drinking a margarita or a glass of wine, smoking a cigarette and visiting with family and friends.

She lived in assisted living/memory care most of the last three years of her life. She was loved by the staff and her hospice caregivers, many who called her "momma" and always had a hug for her. She kept her wit and sense of humor until the end.

Mary Anne, or Tee as the family called her, was blessed to spend time with her grandsons, Addison and Landon, as they were growing up.

Mary Anne was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Donnie, two brothers, Roger Uptegraft and Larry Uptegraft, her granddaughter, Olivia Grace Cargill, and her favorite sidekick, her little white fluff ball, Chloe. She is survived by her daughter Brooke and husband Chris of Edmond, grandson Landon Cargill, grandson Michael "Addison" Howell and wife Darla. Great grandchildren Henry Smith Howell and Maddie Roach all of Edmond. She is also survived by many friends and extended family.

Special thanks to her cousin, Mary Deaton, who made time regularly to take Mary Anne a McDonalds caramel frappe and spend countless hours visiting and reminiscing with her. She along with Mary Anne's sister-in-law, Carolyn Smith, have been an invaluable support to Brooke.
