Obituary

Marlo Deane (Bud) Goodroad was born August 27, 1933 to Gerald and Marvel (Killalea) Goodroad in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He departed this life October 1, 2022 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 89. After graduating high school Bud attended the University of South Dakota. He didn't wait for the draft – he enlisted and served our country in the Air Force six years. During this time he met Ruth Foster on a blind date. They married in 1956. To this union Mitzi Lynn and Peter Foster were born. After Ruth's death in 1978 Bud married Kay (Beistle) McGuire in 1980. Together they adopted a grandson, Michael Foster Goodroad.

Bud joined his father-in-law, Pete Foster in operating Creeco Mill & Elevator. After retiring in 1979 he and Kay bought a hobby – B & K Gun & Pawn Shop. After retiring a second and final time Bud and Kay enjoyed traveling and spending time on their houseboat. He was a member and attended the First United Methodist Church serving in any capacity needed including mission trips. Bud was a lifetime member of the Creek Masonic Lodge 226. As a Shriner, Bud made multiple trips transporting children to Shriner's hospitals in Shreveport, Galveston and St. Louis. He had a spirit of service and volunteerism. He was proud to serve as a volunteer firefighter numerous years. And delivering meals for the Bristow Social Services brought him much joy. He served on the Creek County Equalization and Excise Boards for many years. As a member of the Bristow Golf and Country Club Bud proudly made his one and only "hole in one". As a stiff competitor he played in the Senior Olympics for several years. Dribbling and shooting hoops and cornhole won him many ribbons. But he excelled in pitching horseshoes in which he won World Championship in 2008 in his age group in the National Horseshoe Pitching Association. Growing up spending time at the family cabin in South Dakota, Bud learned to shoot, hunt pheasant, he enjoyed fishing, ice skating on frozen ponds and just being in the great outdoors. He was a huge Bristow Purple Pirate fan attending all sporting events through the years.  Most of all he was a mentor willing to help anyone and left a loving impression on everyone's heart.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth, son Pete and sister Janice Felt. Those left to mourn his passing is his wife Kay, daughter Mitzi, son Michael, step-children Paula Atwell and husband Gary, Eva Barnes and fiancé David White and Michael McGuire.
