The funeral service will be live streamed by clicking the following link:
Margie Ann (Richard) Scaife was born on March 20, 1942 to the loving union of Andrew and Ruth Belle Richard in Marks, Mississippi. Margie was the eighth child of ten born to this union. She departed this life in the comfort of her home surrounded by family in Bristow, OK on July 29, 2021 at the young age of 79.
Margie's family relocated several ties when she was a young child. They moved from Mississippi to Kentucky before settling in the bootheel of Missouri. Margie attended Libourne school and often reminded us that she had to walk in the heat, rain and snow to the school nearest them just to wait on the bus to finish their morning and route then take them to their one room school house.
Margie, at the young age of 15, left her home for the big city of Gary, Indiana where she met and married Luther Scaife Jr. Soon after their union, an opportunity arose and they moved across country to California. Margie and Luther together raised all three of their children in southern California. Once all three were secure in school, Margie started working at Project Move and served as PTA president throughout our elementary age years. Then she moved on to work in the Compton school district in various capacities and stayed there until she started her career as a real estate agent, all so she could afford L.A. Lakers season seats at the forum for over 10 years as an avid Lakers fan and until they retired to Oklahoma.
Margie accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful servant throughout her adult life. She served tirelessly at True Way Baptist Church under the tutelage of Rev. Frank J. Higgins in Los Angeles, California for over 30 years. Once in Oklahoma she and her family joined Duffey Chapel with Rev. Percy Mays and later renamed New Life International Worship Center under Rev. Eric Parker in Bristow. The family moved their membership to Mt. Olive in Sapulpa to hear the word of God from Rev H.T. Busby and now Rev. D'Ricco Day.
Margie devoted her life to helping others and accepting all into her family she had more sisters, brothers and children than she could count and was known from coast to coast as "Momma Margie". Margie had a heart of gold and always sacrificing for the sake of others. She was always the first to volunteer to chaperone field trips, be the parent sponsor for all our club and sports, a taxi for all our friends (we were always at full capacity). You could even find her volunteering her services after we were out of school and not involved in clubs, band, and sports because she was loyal to all commitments.
Margie was an Eastern Star in California and after retiring to Oklahoma became a member of Magdalene Chapter #70 in Bristow even serving as past worthy matron. Margie also enjoyed her mission work in the church and community. She believed in rallying people together around a cause and always wanted more for families in need especially the children.
Margie had a zest for life and she enjoyed vacationing with or without The Bass Badgers, a motorhome club they joined out of Oklahoma City. She loved visiting new states, lakes and tourist attractions across the country. She loved camping, riding bikes, hiking, boating, reading and of course watching basketball. She spent every moment she could just relaxing at the Scaife pond and enjoying nature and the peace and quiet. Grandma as she was so loving called lived for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Grandma made sure her children went on some sort of outing one weekend every month and vacation across country every other year until her children were out of school with no exceptions and everyone was welcome to hitch a ride.
Margie has gained her wings and crown and now reunited with her parents Andrew and Ruth; husband Luther Jr.; one sister Gracie; five brothers Ollie B, Burdette, Andrew Jr., Russell Lee and Robert; brother and sister in laws as well as several nephews and nieces.
Margie leaves behind to carry on her work one sister, Betty May of Three Rivers, Michigan; two brothers, Dewey Richard of St. Louis, MO and Floyd (Janet) Richard of Summerville, SC. One daughter Teresa Scaife of Bristow, OK; two sons, Luther Scaife III of Stafford, VA and Dewayne (Brenda) Scaife also of Bristow,OK. Seven grandchildren Meghan (Deronte') Scott, Josalyn Scaife, Luther Scaife IV, Stering Scaife, De'Ayne Scaife, Summer Day and Grace Harrison. Four great grandchildren Cameryn Scaife, Jacob Scott, Zaria Scott and Mauryce Scaife. She also leaves many sisters and brothers in Christ, lifelong friends, and children she claimed young and old.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 am, Friday, August 6, 2021 at Mt Olive Baptist Church in Sapulpa, Oklahoma with Reverend D'Ricco Day Officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Memorial Gardens in Bristow, Oklahoma.
