Mamie Lee
Mcbride
May 29, 1936 — Apr 16, 2024
Mamie Lee Jones McBride was born May 29, 1936, to Clarence and Mertie Jones in Ada, Oklahoma. She departed this life April 16, 2024, at the age of 87.
She graduated from Cushing High School in 1954. In 1955 she was united in marriage to R.J. "Jake" McBride. From this union were born sons, Stephen, twins, Jerry and Gary, and Randy. She endured the loss of Gary six days after birth.
Jake worked in the oilfield and in the early years the family lived in Cushing, Ripley, Elmore City, Pauls Valley, Ardmore, and Oklahoma City.
Mamie was a stay-at-home mother and though the family was poor as dirt in the beginning, the smell of Clorox lingered through the house. She kept her home spotless. Stephen recalls one of his fondest memories was summer break of 1968. "I was awakened by a cool breeze coming through the window. I could smell the Clorox and heard mom singing as she scrubbed. She had an angelic voice when she sang. All was right with the world to me."
In February 1972 Jake got a job in Stavanger, Norway and the family moved there. As each of the sons graduated, one by one, they came home. Jake and Mamie continued to live in Norway, in Stavanger and Bregan.
Mamie came back with the birth of their first grandchild, Robbie McBride and niece, Jennifer Naylor, to be a part of their life. She lived in Oklahoma City and eventually purchased a home in Wewoka where she remained until 2002.
Mamie and Jake divorced in 1992 and she went to work managing H.U.D. properties. Despite never having to hold a job, she did quite well. In 2002 she sold the house in Wewoka and moved back to a small apartment in Cushing where she remained until she had a stroke.
She is survived by two sons, Steve McBride, and Jerry McBride. Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
