Louie Glen
Wright
Dec 24, 1934 — Sep 18, 2024
Louie Glen Wright passed from this life on September 18, 2024, in Cushing, OK. He was born December 24, 1934, in Avery, OK, to Howard Nicholas and Irma Mae (Biswell) Wright. A lifetime resident of the Cushing area, he attended Happy Valley, Avery, Shamrock, and Sunnyside schools before graduating from Cushing High School in 1952. He attended Oklahoma A&M College in Stillwater, OK.
He married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Mary Lou Cross, on June 1, 1954.He built her a home with his own two hands, and they lived in wedded bliss for 70 years. To this union were born three children: Becky, Lisa, and Brett. Glen worked at the Midland refinery from 1953 until its closure. He was also a business owner in Cushing: first a Case tractor dealership, and later Wright's Lawn & Garden, both on Main Street.
Glen and Mary Lou were members of First Christian Church, Cushing, for 55 years, where Glen was Elder Emeritus. They were more recently members of Cushing Christian Church. They loved and appreciated both of their church families.
Glen was a man of varied interests and hobbies, including but not limited to beekeeping; restoring antique tractors and Ford Model A cars; water skiing; buying and selling antique furniture; and raising draft horses, quarter horses, buffalo, cattle, pheasants, quail, and a misguided attempt at homing pigeons. He knew a little bit about a lot of things, and if you needed advice about your house, your car, or your life, he was usually able to help.
Glen leaves a legacy of deep and abiding love. Family, friends, and associates could count on him to offer his opinion, sometimes strongly, but always with humor and love. A sure measure of that love was how much he teased you. Despite his lifetime commitment to orneriness, his family knew that if they needed him, he'd be there. His support was unwavering.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Irma; one brother, Olin (Buv); and one sister, Helen Robison.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, of the home; his three children, Becky Applegate and her husband Dusty of Cushing; Lisa Duke and her husband Alvin of Stillwater; and Brett Wright and his wife Sara of Cushing; 9 grandchildren, including Kristin Tarp (David), Kirby Applegate (Rebecca), Kaci Clour (Eric), Jake Duke (Rachel), Jessi Shouse (Clark), Paige Field (Blake), Koln Wright (Elizabeth), and Abbi Wright; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maxine Helton and Linda Mulder; and a host of other family and friends, including his dog Beau and his cat Morris. He will be greatly missed, but his family will live strongly on the foundation he helped to build.
A viewing will be held from 11:00am to 4:00pm, Thursday, September 19 and 9:00am to 4:00pm, Friday, September 20, 2024 at the funeral home.
Services will be at 10:00am, Saturday, September 21, 2024 in the Cushing Christian Church with burial following at Harrell Cemetery.
