Leo Oran Hawthorne was born July 23, 1941 to Lester and Edna Hawthorne in Leslie, Arkansas. He departed this life peacefully on Dec 30, 2024 at the age of 83 years, 5 months, and 7 days. In 1961 he joined the U S Navy and proudly served his country for 10 years as a Flight Deck Crewman on multiple aircraft carriers.
On August 3, 1958 Leo Hawthorne married his true love Mary Hawthorne, they were married for 55 yrs at her passing in 2015.
He was a member of the Berryhill United Pentecostal Church for many years and served in multiple capacities. In 1982 when they moved to Bristow Oklahoma and assumed the position of pastor of the Bristow United Pentecostal Church, where he pastored for 32 years until the passing of his wife Mary Hawthorne. He served as the President of the Bristow Ministerial Services for 10 years and also served on the Board for Bristow Social Services and was very active in his community.
He began each day with a prayer and daily reading of the Bible, he would read his bible through multiple times a year. He enjoyed reading western books, hunting, listening to college football and LA Dodgers Baseball and doing odd and ends projects around the house, growing small garden and working in flower beds, his grandchildren and great grandchildren were the highlight of his days. He is survived by three children, Teresa Zvibleman of Chelsea, Oklahoma, Virginia Misciasci of Burleson, Texas and Angela Flippo of Minden, Nevada; two sisters, Leona Carson of Clinton Arkansas and Lynn Hammons of Capay, California; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Delmar Hawthorne, one sister Edna Ruth Thornburgh, wife, Mary Lee Hawthorne, son Wesley Hawthorne and two grandsons, John Wesley Hunter and Michael Shumar. He was loved and respected by so many countless more lives he interacted with over his years of service.
Services are scheduled for January 10, 2025 at 10:00 AM, Friday at Hutchins-Maples Matherly Chapel
