Joseph Earl Smith was born July 21, 1943, to Victor Yager and Elizabeth Helen Smith near Jennings, Oklahoma. He departed this life surrounded by his kids and grandkids on December 29, 2023, at the age of 80.

Joe graduated from Quay High School in 1961. Joe was a great basketball player, and went on a scholarship to Connor's State, but returned home after 3 weeks due to missing his sweetheart. On May 27, 1962, he was united in marriage to Sharon Kay Ramsey. From this union were born three children, Sharon, Patricia, and Joe II. Joe started and owned a successful oilwell cementing company for 32 years.

He was a member of the Cushing Free Will Baptist Church. He enjoyed farming and watching Cushing and Oklahoma State University sports. His true passion revolved around attending events of his grandchildren. He loved well and was loved by all who called him friend.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Kay Smith; three children, Sharon Kerr, Patricia Niccum and husband J.B., Joe Smith, II and wife Kim; Grandchildren, Clayton Kerr and wife Taylor, Ashley Thomas, and husband Josh,

Jessica Campbell and husband Graham, Taylor Smith, Konnor Lanker, and husband Caleb, Kara Sanders, Kourtney Wilkerson, Kristopher Niccum, and wife Amanda; two great grandchildren, Casey Thomas, and Hallie Kay Lanker– and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Jane DonCarlos, Margaret Cathey, Liz Clark, and Wanda Standridge, and one brother, James A. Smith.

Visitation will be from 9:00 – 10:30 on Tuesday, January 2, 2023, at the Matherly-Davis Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be later that day at 2:00PM at the Cushing First Baptist Church.
