John "Bill" McPherson, retired from the United States Air Force and the City of Cushing, passed away early Monday morning, February 6, 2017, at his home at the age of 83 years. The son of the late Herbert McPherson and Maurine Womack McPherson, Bill was born on August 11, 1933, in Drumright, Oklahoma and was raised and educated in Drumright, graduating from Drumright High School. He then attended and graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1956 with a Bachelor's Degree in Science and Geology. Bill entered the United States Air Force on April 10, 1957. During his time of service, he served in Administration, Missile Operations Staff Officer, Missile Test Engineer, Organization Commander and General Manager, Industrial Organization. Bill retired from the Air Force on August 1, 1978. During this time he served in Vietnam and also the Philippines. While stationed at Kinross Air Force Base, Bill was united in marriage to Darla Holder on December 7, 1957, aand to this union four children, Doug, Cynthia, Barry and Stacy, were born. He was a longtime member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ; where he served as deacon and sang with the choir and quartets. He was a former member of the Cushing Lions Club; a member of the Cushing Masonic Lodge and Stillwater Moose Lodge. He loved dancing with the Cushing Oil Patch Twirlers. He enjoyed the outdoors; golfing, traveling in his 5th wheel, boating and all animals. He enjoyed listening to music, singing and playing his guitar. Bill was a people person, a master wood worker and truly a jack of all trades. Survivors include his wife, Darla, of the home; his furry companion, Cassie; children, Doug McPherson of Laramie, Cynthia Lynn Spears and husband Larry of Oak Point, Texas, Barry McPherson and wife Nikki of Prosper, Texas, Stacy Anne Charters and husband Ken of Sapulpa; grandchildren, Chris Renner of Los Angeles, California, Staff Sergeant Ryan Renner and wife, Josie, of San Antonio, Texas, Michelle Renner and fiancé Aaron Schiller of Wylie, Texas, Corporal Cody McPherson of Arvada, Colorado, Ashley Phillips and husband, Trey, of Cushing, Rachael Koeberle and husband, Mat, of Cushing and Lindsay Eversole and husband, Jason, of Cushing; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Donna Wozniak of Tulsa; one nephew; one niece; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Friday, February 10, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. in the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, with Pastor Jim Wilhelm officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Drumright with full Military Honor Guard. The family will greet friends on Thursday evening from 5 – 7 in the Floyd Family Center, East of the Davis Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, or to Physicians Choice Hospice.
