Bristow

Obituary

Janice Marie Plum was born on May 20, 1951, in Bristow, Oklahoma, to James Stanley Plum and Juanita Lorene (Hutchings) Plum. Although natural birth in and of itself is a miracle, the greatest miracle in Janice's life is that she was "born again". I believe, that if she could speak to us today, she would quote this scripture to those who she left behind, "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for those that love Him."

Janice was one of 11 children born to James and Juanita Plum. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Juanita Plum; four sisters, Faye Plum, Jo Carol Smith, Frances Plum, and Carmetta Bruce; also, by one brother Wayne Plum. She is survived by four sisters, Gail Britt of Tupelo, Oklahoma, Dorene Pebsworth, Lori Plum, Annetta Caldwell, and one brother David Plum all of the Bristow area.

Janice graduated from Bristow High School in 1969. Later, she met Ray Raines, and they were married on November3, 1982, in Newby, Oklahoma where they continued to live together for 43 plus years. Both Janice and Ray were employed for some time at Kwikset in Bristow. Janice had also worked as a seamstress for Miss Elaine and Plain and Fancy Stitches.

A few of Janice's best qualities were those of being soft spoken, gentle, and kind to everyone she met. She also had many God-given talents and abilities. She was an extraordinary artist and painter of scenic nature with all its beauty, and she loved painting wildlife. She was an excellent cook and never failed to make extra dressing at Thanksgiving for the family of Don and Carmie Bruce. She loved to quilt, and she loved softball; at the position of first base, and being a left hander, she was one of the best. She loved fishing with her husband Ray; much of their fishing time was spent with good friends, Oscar Smith, Sheila, Rounds, and others at Deep Fork River near the small community of Tuskegee, Oklahoma.

There's nothing that Janice loved more than being with her husband, Ray Raines; whether it be an occasional visit to a local casino, a simple grocery store, or sitting in front of a TV enjoying their time together. Jannie never asked for a lot in this life, because she knew she already had it all. She was content and rich beyond measure in the valuable things that many reach for but never attain.

Janice will be missed dearly by family and friends; especially by Ray and also by her great niece, Makyah Blanchard, who told me often, and usually more than once daily, "El- la, I am going down to see Jannie and Ray."

We won't be able to go down and see Jannie again, but it won't be long, we will be going UP to see her, in Jesus's Holy Name. We thank you, Lord Jesus, that you thought it well and good to share Janice's life with us, and that on November 9, 2025, we could say, "Into Your hands, Dear God, we trust and commend her spirit." We love you always Janice Marie Raines!
