Obituary

Howard E Mahan was born April 3, 1938, to Furman G Mahan and Grace B (Wells) Mahan in Olive, Oklahoma. He departed this life on September 12, 2024, in Drumright at the age of 86 years.

Howard was raised in Olive, graduating from Olive High School with the class of 1957. He was united in marriage to Patsy Story on December 6, 1968; she preceded him in death on August 3, 1998.

He had worked for Taylor Well Service, NL Well Service, Creek County Well Service, Drumright Well Service, and US Tank Trucks since 1974 at the same location until his retirement, as the business changed hands over the years. Howard was known as the proverbial grump ole man - but as many knew once they got to know him - he would be affectionately known as the adorable grump ole man. Those who got to know him knew he had a generous kinder side that would eventually come across and see just how kind and caring he could be.

He was a simple man with few interest. Those included his grandkids, fur kid - BooBoo, Gigi and Sugar. Few knew he actually liked to sing as he rarely showed that to many. He loved watching football and old movies, especially westerns. He could tell you a lot about history and loved building things with his hands as long as he was able. He could think of ways to fix things that were unique. He was always thinking of ways to do something or would be tinkering with something. Howard's mind was till sharp even in his last days up to his passing. He could remember we details when speaking to you. He will be missed by many family and friends

Survivors include his children, Robert Bryan Mahan and wife, Melissa, of Drumright, Kari Selcer and husband, Danny, of Cushing, David Mahan of Seattle, Darla Norton and husband, Thomas, of Oklahoma City, Teri Draper of Stroud and Tammy Stovall of Tulsa; grandchildren, Steven Bush, Shane Mahan, Rex Ashcraft, Robert Ashcraft, Jennifer Ketcham, Dallas Norton, Casie Norton, Troy Stovall, Sarah Foreman, Matthew Foreman, Heather Hart and Luken Williams; numerous great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, Howard was preceded in death by his siblings, Furman Mahan, Daisy Shackleford, Verlaine Goss and Maybelline Karnatz; and one son-in-law, Duane Draper.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024, at the Free Will Baptist Church, 309 N Ohio, Drumright.
