Obituary

George was born on October 2nd, 1929 in rural Lincoln County OK to Everet Leroy and Dona Myrtle (Moore) Herring. He passed from this life on January 24th, 2023 in Tulsa at the age of 93.

George was the youngest son in the family with five other siblings: Jewel, Junior, Joe, Artie and Glenda. This distinction allowed him to be placed low in the Draft Ranks during World War II. Both brothers, Junior and Joe served, with George staying home to help work on the family farm. Upon returning from service, George was eager to show the boys that the Army hadn't made them physically stronger.

In 1950 George married Margaret Nicholas. To this union one son, Edward Lindon Herring, was born. Following divorce, George married Allegra "Allie" Carr in 1964. To this union one son, George Henry Herring, was born. In 1970, the family moved to "town" and made Cushing their home.

He received his formal education (thru 8th Grade) at the Victor School near Avery OK. He traveled to California to work as a laborer. Eventually he began work in the Tanks Farms and Oilfields as a Rig Hand and Derrick Operator all over Oklahoma. Earl Gibble offered him a job as a Truck Driver for Gibble Gas, where he was employed for over 13 Years as a Driver and Dispatcher along side his brother Junior. When Mr. Gibble was planning to disperse his transport fleet to other towns, closer to refineries, George took a job with Lionel Harris Oil Co. as a Truck Driver. He maintained that position for over 13 Years also and retired at age 65. Upon retirement, he couldn't enjoy sedentary life so, he "hit the road" again. Working as a Truck Driver for Cushing Metals, Elmo Stidham and finally ArnCo Transports. During his years as a Driver, he was always known as being professional and easy on the equipment. These traits allowed him to "break-in" many new Semi Tractors for his employers.

George received Salvation and was Baptized into the Baptist faith by Pastor Harold Haymes.

George enjoyed Quail Hunting as a pastime, he owned and trained his own dogs and took great pride in their abilities. Peg being his all-time favorite with her son Tip running a close second. Many a day was spent in the field with family and friends. As bird numbers dwindled, he branched out into pheasant, a little deer hunting and as always…fishing. Not always intent on "filling the bag" but, satisfied with spending the time outdoors with the people he enjoyed. This is not to say that he wasn't up for a good conversation on WHO reached their Limit first or the most.

George lived as a bachelor for the last 22 plus years of his life. Preferring to live alone and be able to go where and when he pleased. He spent time with both Lin and Henry and their families. He enjoyed attending Natallie and Brecken's sporting events. He also had the pleasure of welcoming his Great Great Grandson Walker Herring (5th Generation) two years ago.

George was predeceased by his parents, his wife, brother Joe and sister Jewel Greenfield. As well as a multitude of Brother-in-Laws Virgil Greenfield, JL Carr, Nick Carr, Marion Carr, Darrell Carr, George Redus, Lewis "Clair" Curry and Sister-in-Laws Patty Herring, Allene Redus, Helen Hane, Marolyn Marple, Chlorene Thompson, Geri Carr and Ruby Carr.

He is survived by his Sons, Lin Herring (Darlene) and Henry Herring (Shannon). Grandchildren Dee Herring (Todd), Joe Herring (Keri), Natallie Herring and Brecken Herring. Great Grandson Colton Herring (Jordan) and Great Great Grandson Walker Herring. And a host of Nieces, Nephews and relatives.
