Richard Gene Thompson was born October 10, 1936, to Eugene Lloyd and Velma Ruth Thompson in Prague, Oklahoma. He departed this life September 21, 2025, at the age of 88.
While going to high school, Gene worked at the Bristow Creeco Mill. He graduated from Bristow High School in 1955 then attended Northeastern State University and Central State University where he received his bachelor's degree and teaching certificate. He finished his master's degree from Oklahoma State University.
On August 30, 1958, Gene Thompson and Carolyn Abraham were united in marriage. From this union were born three daughters, Karagene, Terri Lynn, and Katy Jo.
He spent numerous years teaching, then worked for the Creek County Sheriff's Department transporting prisoners. For over twenty years, Gene was an employee at Spirit Bank as a transporter; retiring in 2021. Gene loved the Lord and was a faithful member of the Bristow First Baptist Church.
In his spare time, Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on the farm. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family. His favorite quote was "plan your work, work your plan".
He is survived by wife of sixty seven years, Carolyn Thompson; three daughters, Karagene Callaham, Terri Lynn Dunlap and husband Chris, Katy Jo Verrelli and husband Nick; one brother, Tom J. Thompson and wife Cheryl; eight grandchildren, Jason, Valentina, and Laura Callaham, Michelle Duffield, Chris Michael Dunlap, Marlo and Merit Patterson, and Max Verrelli; one great grandchild, Jack Duffield. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, David Thompson, and son in law, Mike Callaham.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:30am, Monday, October 6, 2025 at First Baptist Church in Bristow with Reverend Bill Liggett officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you celebrate life and take someone to lunch.
