Elveta Bertha Rains was born October 10, 1933, to Robert and Myrtle (Smith) Newman in Bunch, Oklahoma.  She departed this life December 18, 2023, at the age of 90.

She was one of seven children that grew up in the Perry community and attended Mudlark school.  On January 21, 1994, she was united in marriage with Jess Rains.  They enjoyed twenty-one years together before his passing May 4, 2015.

She was a faithful member of the Faith Baptist Church in Slick, Oklahoma.  She loved going to church and listening to the bluegrass gospel music offered by the church band.  She had a heart for children and enjoyed visiting with the kids at church.  She also enjoyed collecting red birds (cardinals) and going to antique stores.  She was never bashful about sharing what she was thinking.  She was a friend to many and will be missed by those who knew her.

She is survived by five children, Billy Hamilton, Wilburn Hamilton, Harold Hamilton, Rebecca Meador, and Mark Hamilton; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Jess Rains as well as six siblings.

Memorial services are scheduled for 11:00AM, Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at the Faith Baptist Church, Slick, Oklahoma.
