Obituary

Donna (Annis) Gaskins was born January 20, 1945, to JoAnna Brattin and Leonard Eugene Newcomb in Weatherford, Oklahoma. She departed this life August 8, 2024, in Edmond, Oklahoma.

She attended elementary schools in Yukon and Edmond and Junior High School in Hydro, Oklahoma before returning to Weatherford where she graduated High School in 1963. Following high school, she attended and graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University with her Bachelor of Fine Arts and Art Education and fine arts and a minor in Physical Education.

In 1966 she was united in marriage to Robert Annis. From this union were born Kent and Kemberlee.

She began her teaching career in Garden City, Kansas and Cortez, Colorado. Then the family moved to Cushing in 1974, and in 1976 began teaching at Harmony Elementary School for the next 11 years. During that time, she completed her master's degree at Oklahoma State University. In total she spent almost 40 years helping others, both young and old learn and understand.

Following her separation from Robert she later found love again and was united in marriage with Mick Gaskins and happily accepted his two sons, Mike and Reggie, as her own. They moved to Tulsa where she taught Art for four years. With Mick she moved frequently allowing her to experience living in other states such as, Colorado, Arkansas, and Georgia before moving back to Oklahoma eventually settling in Edmond in 2017. Donna and Mick enjoyed over 32 years together before his passing April 10, 2021.

In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and quilting. Her projects included making quilts for all her grandkids, nieces and nephews. She also sewed, quilted, and knitted for numerous special projects such as infants in crisis and new babies at children's hospital.

Her faith in Christ was also a huge part of her life. She was a member of the Cushing First United Methodist Church. Her involvement included vacation bible school, United Methodist Women "Women of Faith", Administrative Council and the board of the Small Miracles Preschool. She never lost her faith and continued to hold it dear to her until her last moment on earth. She ended her prayer time each day with Psalm 23 and the Lord's prayer.

She is survived by her children, Kent Annis and wife Kathryn, Kemberlee Annis, Mike Gaskins and wife Aryn, and Reggie Gaskins and wife Lacie; one sister, Cyndy Newcomb Underside and husband Dennis; grandchildren, Justin Annis, Jennifer Annis-Neal, Ryan Gaskins, Korben Gaskins, Cruz Gaskins, Dutch Lemmon, Tennessee Lemmon-Boyle, and Dane Lemmon; numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers, Johnny and Earl Newcomb.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 17, 2024, in the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Charles Durant officiating. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery in Perkins.
