Delbert Earl Wright, a long time Cushing resident, made his passing from this life on August 15, 2018. "Earl", as he was called by family and friends, came into this world September 11, 1924 at Sparks, Lincoln County, Oklahoma as the second child to Charles Wesley Wright and Lavona Ruth (Lilly) Wright. Earl was a second generation Oklahoman as both his parents were born in Oklahoma Territory. Earl married Thelma L. "Bea" Lewis at the Church of Christ in Edmond, Oklahoma on March 16, 1946. The young couple lived in the Oklahoma City area until 1949 when Bea told him she didn't want to rear her children in a big city, and they moved to Bea's hometown of Drumright where Earl got a job at the Tydol Refinery. After the refinery closed in 1954, the family moved to Cushing where Earl was employed by Halliburton and then by Gibble Oil Company. Earl's final employer was the City of Cushing where he retired after 13 years at the Electric Production Plant. Earl was a member of the Church of Christ, and was a dependable volunteer at the church's food bank. He attended church services every Sunday morning and Wednesday evening until failing health prevented his attendance. Earl was a steadfast family man. When he wasn't working he was at home with his family. Growing up during the Great Depression instilled a high work ethic in him. One time he was laid off work and the next day, instead of filing for unemployment benefits, pushed his lawn mower down the streets looking for lawns to mow. Within that same week he had another full time job. Earl did not drink and always brought his paycheck home and gave it to Bea. After cancer took Bea in 1979, he never re-married. The surviving family include; son Calvin Wright and his wife, Anita; daughter, Sally Wright-Prock; daughter, Julie Hawkins and her husband, Brad; grandsons Brian Wright, and his wife, Tara; Forrest Wright; Alan Huckabay, and his wife, Kara; great-grandsons, Champ Wright, Ace Wright, Brayden Huckabay, and great-granddaughter, Addyson Huckabay, all of Cushing; Preston Prock, a student at Oklahoma Christian University in Edmond; and granddaughter, Erica Huckabay, and finance', Chris Hall, of Tulsa. Step-grandchildren include Terra Arnold & fiance', Gary Wilden, of Broken Arrow; Scarlett Gilkison & husband, Rob, of Davenport; Kelley Casey & fiance' Will Clymer, of Colorado Springs; and six step-great-grandchildren: Tessa Arnold, Landon Arnold, Tyler Gilkison, Case Gilkison, Hannah Casey, and Cloe Casey. Earl's family whom have already passed include; his parents; wife, Thelma L. "Bea" Wright; brothers, Paul Wright, William J. Wright, infant brother Charles Raymond Wright; sisters, Bertella Hicks (Austin), Berniece Ofczarzak, Luella Shoemake and son-in-law Larry L. "Monty" Prock. Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, August 18, at the Ninth & Linwood Church of Christ, followed by interment at the Greenwood Cemetery southeast of Yale where he will rest next to Bea. The family will greet friends on Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. in the Floyd Family Center.
