Obituary

Darla Sue McPherson, age 88 of Cushing, Oklahoma, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on September 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on August 6, 1938, in Wewoka, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Elmer and Rosemary Holder. She married John William McPherson, whom she affectionately called Bill, on December 7, 1957, and together they shared 59 wonderful years of marriage.

As a devoted military wife, Darla faithfully supported her husband throughout his years of service. She faced each move and new assignment with courage and grace, creating a warm and loving home wherever the military took their family. Through every season of life, her family remained at the center of her heart.

Her greatest joy was being the mother of four children: Doug, Lynn, Barry and Stacy. She loved her family deeply and was a constant source of strength, comfort, wisdom and encouragement.

While attending business school, Darla worked as a nanny. Throughout her working years, she was also employed by a carpet and tile company and later worked at the State Farm Office in Cushing. Her strong work ethic, dependability, and caring nature were evident in all she did.

Music was an important part of her life. Sharing her love of music and as an accomplished pianist, she played with the Drumright Ensemble for many years and faithfully served as a church pianist for the First Christian Church in Cushing for many years. She also accompanied the Cushing High School and Middle School choirs on the piano. Through her music, she touched the lives of countless students, church members, friends and members of the community.

Following retirement, she and Bill enjoyed spending their winters as “snowbirds” in Alamo, Texas, for several years. They also shared many wonderful summer adventures traveling in their fifth-wheel camper, making treasured memories and friendships along the way.

She will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her beautiful musical talent, strong work ethic and compassion for others.

She is survived by her four children, Douglas McPherson of Laramie, WY; Lynn Spears of Nevada, TX; Barry (Nikki) McPherson of Prosper, TX and Stacy (Ken) Charters of Sand Springs, OK; grandchildren, Chris Renner, Ryan (Josie) Renner, Michelle (Aaron) Schiller, Cody (Molly) McPherson, Ashley (Trey) Phillips, Rachael Harmon (Jon Johnson), and Lindsay (Jason) Eversole; great-grandchildren, Harper, Olivia, Luke, Robby, Jaxon, Aspen, Grey, Kyra, Gabriel, Brandon, Isaac, Austin and Aiden. She is also survived by her twin sister, Donna Wozniak. She was preceded in death by husband, John (Bill) McPherson; parents, Elmer and Rosemary Holder; sister, Carole Arnold; brother, Jay Holder and her beloved pet and companion, Cassie.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 1:00 PM in the Cushing Christian Church. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Drumright.

The family will greet friends on Friday evening from 6-8 in the Family Center at the Matherly Davis Funeral Home.

Although our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that she is at peace in the presence of her Lord and Savior. Her love, strength, faith and music will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. “Well done good and faithful servant, Matthew 25:23”
