Claude “Speedy” Byrd was born to Hugh and Grace Byrd on April 11th, 1943 in Monte Vista, Colorado. He departed from this life on August 16th, 2026 at the age of 83.

Claude was blessed in his ability to not only care for his family throughout his life but, be cared for by his family when his health declined. Having his wife, Rosetta, and daughter, Teri, of the home brought much comfort. He was a jack of all trades, working as a self-contractor all his life. Claude served as security, worked on ranches, mobile homes, construction sites, and anywhere else he could lend a hand or share his expertise. He loved his wood crafting, construction, fishing, and hunting. He served as a Creek County Reserve Deputy for many years and was known as “Poppa Byrd” by his Law Enforcement Family.

Claude is preceded in death by his parents Hugh and Grace Byrd, and his in-laws Virgil and Pearl Cosby. His son, Eddie Byrd. His brother Robert “Bob” Byrd and his sisters Opal McReynolds, Tommie Jo Byrd, Mary Lemons, and Elizabeth “Chick” Dean. His brothers-in-law Mack McReynolds and JC Lemons. His granddaughter Andrea Brletich, his great-grandchild Baby Pruitt, and his ex-wife Jackie Larkins.

Claude is survived by his wife of 57 years Rosetta Byrd. His children, Claude “Bo” Byrd & Cheryl Byrd, Kitty “Duncan” Byrd, Billy & Barbara Byrd, Claudia & Terry Will, and Teri Lovell & Terry McGuire. His brother, Emmett “Bud” Byrd, his sisters-in-law Jeanetta Cosby & LaVera Byrd, and brother-in-law James Dean. He was well-loved by his 25 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and those who considered him part of their family.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Claude at 10:30am on Saturday August 29th, 2026, in the gym of Southwest Baptist Church, located at 5304 S. 33rd W. Ave. Tulsa, OK 74107.
