Charles Donald Cline was born on November 27, 1927 in Arkansas City, Kansas to Earl A Cline and Marie Lancaster Cline. He passed away peacefully on June 19, 2016 at the age of eighty-eight years. Charles (Charlie to many people) showed great courage in his five year battle with cancer. When he was five months old, he, his two year old brother, Douglas, and their parents moved to Wyoming where they homesteaded for eleven years. They returned to Oklahoma in 1939. Charles attended school in Newkirk, Oklahoma, graduating as Valedictorian of his class of 1945. He spent the next year working on the family ranch when his father was ill. Then Charles joined the Army, and was sent to Italy where he served with the Trust Garrison. The highlight of his tour of duty was winning a week-long trip to Rome with his group in a military competition. On his return he continued his education, graduating from Oklahoma A&M College where he became a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He married his college sweetheart, Ruth Lanora McCoy in Cushing, Oklahoma on June 26, 1952; they were within days of celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary. They resided in Cushing for seven years after their marriage, where Ruth taught school and he continued working at the family ranch. He also returned to college (Oklahoma State) graduating with honors from the School of Engineering. He and Ruth moved to Dallas, Texas to pursue their careers. Charles attained his Master's degree in Engineering at Southern Methodist University. He worked at Collins Radio Company (which later joined with Rockwell International) which was a great opportunity, Charles received the highest possible engineering recognition. His projects included designing and installing the ground communication for the Apollo Space Program and establishing digital telephone services in the United States and Worldwide. He also was awarded two patents from the United States Patent Office. Charles and Ruth enjoyed trips in the United States and abroad. He was a talented photographer. They were active in the Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church in Dallas and the First Christian Church in Cushing, where they spent the last ten years. Charles was a kind hearted, generous person, a beloved husband, devoted to family and friends and animals (over the years their three standard poodles, Fou Fou, Oso and Coco brought them great joy). He is survived by his wife, Ruth; sisters-in-law Mary Jane Miller and Sandra Cline; his niece, Sue Carmel Pinkerton; his great-nephew, Roy Warren Pinkerton and wife Melissa Pinkerton and their children Zara and Levi; special family member Juhree Vanderpool and many other friends and relatives, including Cline cousins. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, Cimarron Valley Humane Society (P.O. Box 1163, Cushing) or to the organization of your choice, in his memory. Services will be held at the Memorial Chapel of the Davis Funeral Home on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Jim Wilhelm officiating. .
