Obituary

Charlene Waynette Wood was born September 23, 1952, to Charles and Valda Butler. She departed from this life on July 23, 2026, at the age of 73. She was surrounded by her family throughout her final days.

On July 25, 1968, at the age of 15, Charlene married Kenny Wood. To this union were born four children: Stacy, Niki, Kristi, and J.R. Together they built a beautiful life and were blessed with 56 years of marriage.

Charlene loved her life as a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and working outdoors. For many years, she lovingly prepared lunches for the Cushing Tiger football team, serving countless players with the same warmth and care she gave her own family.

But nothing brought Charlene more joy than being a mom and especially being "Nana." She wasn't just Nana to her own grandchildren—she became Nana to anyone who walked through her door. Her home was a place where everyone was welcome, no one ever left hungry, and breakfast was served 24 hours a day if that's what her grandkids wanted. No matter the hour, she would happily cook their favorite meal, and she never knew how to say no to the people she loved. Nana's house was the best place to be. Her grandchildren were truly the center of her world, and they knew beyond a doubt that they were deeply loved.

Charlene is survived by three children: Niki Wood-Myers, Kristi Link and husband Landon, and J.R. Wood and wife Rachel; two sisters, Barbara Wood and Terri Lake and husband Ronnie; grandchildren, Josh Myers and wife Cassidy, Dawson Myers and wife Mariah, Macy Higgins and husband Dakota, Keegan Myers, Hannah-Beth Chapman and husband Ben, Hagan Myers, Jackson Link and fiancée Hannah, Harrison Wood and wife Kailee, Lane Wood, Max Wood, Dylan Link, Jayden Link, and Drew Wood; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Kenny Wood; her parents, Charles and Valda Butler; her daughter, Stacy Michelle Wood; and her brother-in-law, Steve Wood.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Cushing. Burial will follow at Euchee Valley Memorial Park.
